K. Ryan Helmick

Criminal Defense, Nevada

Attorney Biography

“Ryan grew up in both Las Vegas, NV and Cocoa Beach, FL. He completed his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He then moved to San Diego where he went to Thomas Jefferson School of Law. His studies in law school were in the area of Criminal Law and Trial Practice. After passing the Nevada bar, he began practicing exclusively in the area of criminal defense.

During his time as a lawyer he has been fortunate enough to have trained with the Trial Lawyers College, founded by famed trial lawyer Gerry Spence, on more than one occasion. He also spent his first year of practice mentoring under the legendary Las Vegas Criminal Defense lawyer, William “Bill” Terry. Learning from these two Hall of Fame lawyers gave Ryan the tools necessary to provide the best defense possible for his clients.

Today, Ryan continues to practice exclusively in the area of Criminal Defense and DUI Law. He is a member of the Office of Appointed Counsel for cases that only involve life sentences. In addition, he serves as an Ombudsman for the Police Fatality Public Fact-Finding Review Board. During his time as a lawyer he has tried many high-profile cases and successfully resolved many others. Some of these included murder and sexual assault charges.

Ryan has been recognized as National Trial Lawyers “Top 40 Under 40” for 2015 and 2016. In 2020, he was nominated to be included in the well-known Marquis “Who’s Who in America for Law.” Also, in 2020, he was selected by the American Trial Academy as a “Top Tier Lawyer.” Only the top 2% in America are chosen for this award each year. Additionally, Ryan was selected as one of the “10 Best Attorney’s” by the American Institute of DUI/DWI Attorney’s. In 2019, he was selected as the “Top 40 Under 40” by the American Society of Legal Advocates. In 2018, he was selected as one of the “Top 10 Under 40” by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorney’s. In 2018, he was selected as one of the “10 Best Under 40” by the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorney’s. Lastly, he has been given the Clients Choice Award for 2016, 2017 and 2019 by AVVO, the lawyer rating service.

But Ryan will be the first to say that it’s not the awards that set him apart from the rest. What sets Ryan apart from many other criminal defense lawyers is his passion for what he does, his love for his clients and his relentless preparation of the cases that he defends.”
